It feels like after a hectic few weeks we can finally draw breath on the football front.

What a shame it was to see a magnificent run of form come to an end over the New Year but what a relief it was to get back to business on Saturday - as we defeated Soham Town Rangers 4-0 at home with an excellent performance.

We now have an 18 game season to try and secure a place in the top six of the Isthmian North and win a play-off place.

It’s a cliché, but if I was offered that at the beginning of the season I would have accepted it.

There are no easy games at this stage of the season but going week to week after tonight’s game with Tilbury will give us a good chance of a successful outcome if the football Gods are kind to us.

It’s imperative that our desire to achieve something special is matched by the required work rate from all of us.

Saying you want to do something is completely different to taking the necessary actions to actually making it happen, we know that.

I am sure there will be plenty of ups and downs for all the clubs involved.

It’s exciting to see how things pan out and everyone at Bowers, including myself, should be grateful that we are playing for something at the right end of the table.

It was great that Lewis Manor turned down the prospect of joining anyone else this season and will be staying with us.

We actually received a formal approach from a competitor for him on Christmas Eve which I felt was a little tasteless but in the end no harm was done.

Lewis is a big part of our club and one of only a few players that have been with me since I joined Bowers four years ago. For me, his future was never in doubt.

I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year.
