BASILDON United returned to the Essex Senior League promotion hunt with a 2-0 win over rivals FC Romania.
Basildon had lost two on the bounce as their promotion bid took a surprising turn for the worse and victory at home against FC Romania was a must.
But it was goalless at the halfway point. However, a brace from Jack Adlington handed the Bees the victory.
A terrific second half showing handed Great Wakering Rovers three more points in their title bid.
Rovers were expected to strengthen their top two tilt with victory at lowly Burnham Ramblers but there was nothing between the two teams at half-time.
But an own goal got Rovers on their way before Nathan Dewberry, Chris Bryan and Neil Richmond wrapped up the points in a 4-0 win.
Hullbridge Sports were emphatically beaten 4-0 by Enfield 1893 as their survival bid looks set to go down to the wire.
Hullbridge were 1-0 down at the break and got off to the worst possible start in the second period.
And a poor performance was made worse as two further goals condemned them to a 4-0 reverse.
