CHARLES Aldersley secured another major trophy as he and his partner Dave Beale won the Carr Hodson event at Rochford Hundred’s finals day.

The duo saw off Eric Stanley and Ian Hookway after a huge tussle to come out on top, while the Choyce foursomes went to Lee Winsor and Andy Frye as they saw off Dominic Short and Malcolm Treloghan. The junior section of the club championship went to the latter stages as Rob Bryan defeated Bob Wells and Mick Matthews lifted the Scoran More as he beat Tony Mutimer.

The midweek Scott Spencer has now moved into its latter stages with a few new names coming to the fore.

Seven handicapper Wayne Havis produced an excellent round as he shot a level par score to amass 43 points.

Havis dropped shots on just two holes, one of which was a double bogey.

He more than made up for these minor blips as he also posted three fine birdies and pars on all the rest.

Havis saw two full shots shaved off his playing handicap as he was cut to category one five.

Runner-up Mark Crisp also saw his handicap reduced to six as he shot 42 points, normally enough on most weeks to win.

The highlight of Crisp’s round was undoubtedly a magnificent eagle two on the par four second.

Kenneth Baynes with 40 points filled the third place.

The ladies have also been busy, holding their equally prestigious club championship.

That honour went to Georgia Gilling as she posted 159 to edge Jo Rumsey on 161 after 36 holes of hard fought competition. The bronze sec-tion went to Lorraine Norris from Beryl Claxton in second.

The Autumn Meet went to Amanda Colgate-Herbert on 38 points with four ladies all tying for second on 35.

Chris Barker lifted the Austin Cup with a net 147 after 36 holes.

Medal worth it for the new winners

THE men at Thorpe Hall were spoilt for choice last week, with the attraction of the Ryder Cup vying with the Monthly Medal.

Many members watched Europe retain the cup but they took a four-hour break from the action at Gleneagles for the medal competition. And it was worthwhile for the winners, who won the event for first time.

Ian Dye, who has an 8.9 handicap, was the Division One winner with a nett 69.

Robert Styles (9.9) was second with a nett 71 and Charles Meaby (5.7) was third with a nett 73. Division Two honours went to Kevin D’eca (24.2) with a nett 70.

A nett 72 earned Bruce Bevan (12.9) runners-up spot, with Stewart Hayden (14.7) third with a nett 74.
