DANIEL Brooks’ first ever round at an Open Championship proved to be a tough one.
The 28-year-old, from Basildon, bogeyed four of his final five holes at the famous St Andrews course to finish the day on four-over par.
Brooks, who is playing at his first major championship, started in steady fashion, reaching the turn at one-over par.
A birdie on the par-three 11th looked to have put the former Woodlands School pupil on course for a strong finish but he found the final five holes tough, bogeying four of them.
Brooks is in some illustrious company on four-over par, however as former Open champions and superstars of the game Tiger Woods and Tom Watson both also shot rounds of 76.
