RICHARD McEvoy has given himself a chance of retaining his European Tour Card after two days of the Hong Kong Open.

The Southend professional followed up his three-under par round of 67 on the first day at the Fanling Golf Club with a round of 68 to move up to 10th place overall on the leaderboard.

McEvoy, who has worked out he needs to finish in the top three in the tournament to keep his playing rights, now sits 10th on the leaderboard on five-under par, four shots behind leader Justin Rose.

Afterwards the Thorpe Hall professional revealed he was suffering with jetlag and struggled to get up at 5am to be ready for his early start, but was pleased with how his round panned out.

"I'm inside the top ten on the leaderboard which is just where I wanted to, and needed to, be going into the weekend.

"More golf of that standard is what I need over the weekend to keep my playing card but I dare not think about that on the course I just have to concentrate on every shot."

Basildon's Daniel Brooks' season came to an end on day two of the tournament in Hong Kong, however, as he missed the cut at Fanling.

The 28-year-old, who looks to be assured of a tour card next season, shot a one-over round for the second time in consecutive days to finish on two-under overall and miss the cut by two shots.

Brooks is currently 102nd in the Race to Dubai rankings with the top 110 retaining their tour cards. The Hong Kong Open is the final regular tournament of the European Tour season.
