SOUTHEND’S Richard McEvoy picked up his biggest prize of the season when he finished tied seventh in the Afr Asia Bank Mauritius Open this week.

The Thorpe Bay Golf Club member played a terrific European Tour tournament, finishing three over par to end on 291, nine shots off winner Jeunghun Wang, of Korea.

McEvoy pocketed 23,160 euros, taking his annual total up to 61, 522 euros for the season so far although he sits a way off the pace in the season-ending Race to Dubai. He is 133rd with just the top 60 qualifying.

Fellow Thorpe Bay GC member Matt Southgate was also in action in Mauritius, although he finished tied 50th after failing to build on a strong first round of 72.

He finished eight shots behind McEvoy.

Daniel Brooks returns to action in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open hosted by the Rory Foundation this weekend, the first time the European Tour has come to the UK this season.

He tees off at 2:20pm along with Daniel IM and Jorge Campillo.
