HOLLAND Park ABC head coach Richard Adams admitted the only blemish on the club’s first show had been an injury to Tey Lynn-Jones.

The senior elite fighter suffered a cut in his bout against Pawal Augunustyk which brought the fight to an early end.

Club chiefs are now waiting to see Eastern Counties ABA Championship finalist will now be fit for a scheduled bout at the end of the month.

“It was a brilliant show and the only disappointment was Tey’s cut,” said Adams.

“It was a clash of heads and the cut was quite bad. It’s a shame that Tey now has a TKO on his record.

“He is due to go to Sweden to fight in the Box Cup at the end of the month but the injury means that is now in doubt.

“We’re waiting to see how things go because he may need plastic surgery.”

Tey Lynn-Jones was injured in his bout

Jones’ fight against Hamilton Greens ABC’s Augunustyk was the final bout of the 14-fight show.

The Thurrock boxer was making good progress against his rival from the Taunton club when he suffered the cut above his left eye midway through the first round.

It came after fellow Holland Park elite boxers Sam Malone and Davis Pagan had both won their bouts.

Former Rayleigh ABC fighter Malone picked up the home boxer of the show award following his unanimous points win over Wickford-based Sam Bezzina, who was representing West Ham ABC.

In an action-packed bout, both fighters fought well in an evenly-matched contest fought over three three-minute rounds.

And despite losing to the judges’ verdict, Bezzina took the best away boxer award following his strong showing.

Pagan looked comfortable against Bedford ABC’s Ermal Dida, with the Holland Park boxer content to let his rival have the middle of the ring.

Pagan used some strong combinations and although Dida did go on the offensive, the home boxer got a unanimous decision from the judges.

The show was the first since the club was set up earlier this year with its gym in Burnt Mills Road, Basildon.

Holland Park’s show featured a mixture of junior, youth and senior boxers in action at Hassenbrook Academy, in Hassenbrook Road, Stanford-le-Hope, on Saturday afternoon.

“We had texts from all the clubs who took part to say it was a brilliant show and a great day of boxing,” added Adams.

“The only dampener was Tey’s injury. He is an up and coming fighter and is definitely one to watch out for in the future.”

Adams thanked all the clubs who had supported the show and everyone from Holland Park ABC who had made the event a success.
