LEE Watson was denied two podium finishes in the British Formula One Sidecar Championship round in Scotland.

Rayleigh passenger Watson and his JH Racing/Finning Cat driver Ben Holland had enjoyed two good races at Snetterton a fortnight before and headed to Knockhill in high spirits.

The duo qualified sixth on the grid for the first race, just half a second off the pole time.

By lap three they had moved up to third place and finished there behind winners Ricky Stevens/ Ryan Charlwood and second-placed Andy Peach/Charlie Richardson.

Sunday’s second race saw Watson and Holland, from Portsmouth, make a good start behind Stevens/Charlwood and Peach/Richardson. But Holland had gearbox problems on lap 13 and could only get sixth gear. That cost them two places but they still finished fourth.

“We were really on the pace and chasing down Ricky,” said Watson.

“But we still have solid points and have moved up two places in the Championship.”

The pair are now in seventh place and head to Brands Hatch next weekend.
