OLD Southendian made it an eighth week unbeaten with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Pelicans of Kings Lynn.

Five different men were on the scoresheet in the emphatic win which keeps them top of the Eastern Division One table.

With Pelicans scoring nine the previous week, the Old Boys were wary of their opponents’ attacking threats. However great concentration in defence, led by star shot stopper Nick Richards and new recruit Alex Krekkis, restricted the visitors to half a dozen short corners and few clear chances from open play.

Instead it was the Old Boys who took an early lead, James Byford the sharpest to react in the circle to move the ball around the keeper and slot into the goal.

After Liam Peoples blazed the final touch over the bar following an outstanding passing move involving most of the team and further chances came and went, the lead was eventually doubled by a strike from the ever reliable Tim Robinson.

A third goal followed on the stroke of half time, as with only 30-seconds remaining, a short corner was defended, a cross field aerial was thrown from the left beyond the opposition defense and neat work by Tim Robinson set up Jack Chambers to calmly finish on his reverse stick.

The second half saw a further two goals added, Peoples scoring his 15th goal of the season from a penalty flick, and Harry Badger scoring his first with an excellent solo effort much to the delight of the home crowd.

The only blot on the card came as club talisman Stuart MacDonald was awarded a yellow card for an intentional use of the foot,.

However both second half-goals came during MacDonald’s time in the sin bin as the home team rallied.

Old Boys now have 20 points from eight games and the best defensive record in the east of England.
