BRINN Bevan is back in business for this summer’s Olympic Games after making a rapid return from injury.

The gymnast’s hopes of reaching Rio were shattered by a double leg break he suffered last November.

But the 18-year-old, who trains at the Basildon based South Essex Gymnastics Club, is already way ahead of schedule on his rehabilitation.

And Bevan was delighted to be able to return to action by executing four limited routines at the English Championships.

“It’s a great feeling to be back so quickly and to be able to compete at all at this stage,” said the former Deanes School pupil.

“Most people would be out for a year with the injury I had and most athletes would be out for six months.

“But I’m back in four and think that’s down to a variety of reasons.

“I’m lucky to be part of Team GB so I have access to top physiotherapists and I also have great people around me.

“I’ve also managed to keep positive and I think that’s definitely helped me to return so quickly.”

Bevan helped Great Britain win team silver in the World Championships last October before being struck down by the injury which occurred when he landed awkwardly while vaulting.

But Bevan will now step up his return at the British Championships at the Echo Arena in Liverpool at the start of April.

He then also hopes to be able to participate in the test event in Rio later next month before also taking part in the European Championships which are being held in Switzerland in May.

However, it is the Olympics which remain Bevan’s number one target.

“I always knew it would take a big push to get to Rio but I’m determined to do all I can to get there,” said Bevan.

“I still have a long way to go and plenty of hard work ahead of me but I’ll be doing everything I can to make it happen.”

Bevan will continue to train alongside superstar team-mate Max Whitlock as he continues his pursuit of securing a place of Rio.

And his coach Scott Hann remains shocked by the progress Bevan has already made since suffering his injury.

“I still can’t believe how quickly Brinn has come back from a double leg break,” said Hann.

“He performed above what we were expected at the English Championships and even managed a dismount which he wasn’t really supposed to do.

“But he’s looking stronger all the time and it’s very pleasing to see.”
