DEAN Stevens wasted little time in securing another victory against Mitchell Head in the UWC Contender Fight Night held at Southend’s Talk Nightclub.

The Rayleigh based 27-year-old had beaten Head within 22 seconds the first time the duo entered the cage.

And, at the weekend, Stevens enjoyed another quick-fire victory as he triumphed within the first half a minute of the fight.

“The fight went to plan and it was pleasing to get the win,” said Stevens.

“I’d fought Mitchell in the last show a few months back and beat him in 22 seconds.

“But he then decided he wanted a rematch and I gave him that chance.

“This time I got him in a standing guillotine which I beat him with in the first fight and I got it again quick in this fight but I let it go as I didn’t want to beat him the same way again.

“I got the win with a ground and pound after 29 seconds and it was obviously a great feeling.”

Stevens had trained incredibly hard in the build up to the fight and often ran wearing bin bags to help lower his weight.

However, the doorman had been troubled by a shoulder problem in the build up to the fight and was grateful for the guidance by his coach at the TSG club, Dan Burzotta.

“Your training can’t be any better when you’ve got Dan as your coach and it does give you a big boost for sure,” said Stevens.

“He’s the best in the business and Tom Sloan is brilliant as well but you can’t help but be lifted by the atmosphere as well.

“It was amazing and hearing everyone chanting my name as I walked on was brilliant.

“Dan definitely knows how to put on a show.

“He’s been doing it for 10 years or so now and I think the nights he puts on have the best atmosphere of any boxing or MMA shows I’ve ever been to if I’m honest.”

The victory was Stevens’ third in succession and came after he was persuaded to carry on after initially agreeing to fight to raise funds for a charity helping stranded dogs.

“The first fight was for charity but then my friends and family made a Facebook page about me returning to the cage so it turned out people wanted to see it happen,” said Stevens.

“I’m enjoying it and the next fight night is at Clements Hall in March and Dan wants me to be part of that too.

“This show looks like being the biggest he’s done to date so I will get back in to my training again after a week or so of rest.”
