THE world’s best snooker players will descend on Basildon in June for a charity match organised by Stuart Bingham.

After Essex Senior League club Basildon United named their stadium after the 2015 World Snooker champion last summer, Bingham and co will descend on Gardiners Close to raise money for Havens Hospices.

The likes of Ken Doherty, Kyren Wilson, Mark King, Michael Holy, Mark Davis, Ryan Day, Joe Perry and Alfie Burden have already signed up to play on Saturday, June 17.

And Bingham said he is looking forward to it.

“It was actually chairman Lee Connor’s idea,” he said. “The lads on tour are always talking about football and have done similar events like five-a-side so I knew they would be up for it.

“We have to get some decent players in as we are playing semi-professional players and for me it is a chance to have some fun.

“We have a Whatsapp group where all the players talk about everything and it will be a good experience to see the Basildon players up close.

“We will have some decent players as Alfie Burden was on the books at Arsenal and Mark King is good too.

“I might be the manager or mascot,” he added. “I will try and play although I don’t know how long I will last.

“With the size of my hands, a few people have said I should go in goal.”

Bingham chose Havens Hospices as his charity after his wife Michelle’s brother spent some time at Little Havens before he passed away.

And he said he is excited to raise cash for a great cause.

“The family has a close bond with the charity and I would love to give something back to them. It would be great to see some people out and it will be nice to see the players off the table too.”

Tickets cost £10 for adults, £5 for children and OAPs.
