BASILDON racer Rob Cresswell is targeting a speedy return to the track after he broke his arm during testing at Silverstone last weekend.

The 40-year-old was preparing for the second race in the 2017 No Limits Cup 600 Championship race series when the front of his bike folded on a corner.

Cresswell, who was travelling at 104mph at the time, slid almost 100m, before hitting the curb and landing awkwardly, breaking the radius in his right arm.

But he insists he is already plotting a route back onto the track, and is targeting the meeting at Brands Hatch on April 22 and 23.

“I had a good feel on the bike but it just went out from under me,” said Cresswell. “I was taking a good line and must have slid 80 to 100m.

“I hit the curb and the landing broke my arm. I even had a chance to look around that’s how long I was sliding.

“I felt really good and didn’t have a single person pass me in testing. It was very cold – about three degrees - and over 20 bikes came off on that corner over the weekend.

“I have never broken my arm, but I will be back soon. I had some laser treatment in Ipswich and it should repair it twice as quick.”

On crashing, Cresswell said he knew he had broken his arm but refused to let medics cut him out of his leathers, choosing to remove them himself.

His bike – a Kawasaki ZX6R 600cc – is repairable and he said he will be back on his mountain bike next week in preparation for a return to the grid.

But Cresswell, who finished 22nd, 12th and ninth in round one at Brands Hatch, insists he will be sensible when it comes to making a decision on his return.

“I will not endanger myself or anyone else,” he said. “If it is not Brands I will try for the following round."
