EAST Essex Sabres suffered a second consecutive defeat to London Blitz B in the British American Football Association League Division Two East.

Sabres were looking to gain revenge after suffering a 54-8 loss to their London opponents last time out.

But the Sabres fell to a 35-23 away defeat.

Despite the Sabres suffering their eighth loss of the campaign, acting offensive line coach Lawrence Craven felt their were plenty of positives to take from the game.

Craven said: “It was an incredible team performance that serves as the perfect example of the Sabres’ team spirit.

“Of course we would have liked to have walked away with the victory, but I feel like we were winners regardless of the scoreline.

“Only seven days beforehand, London Blitz B inflicted a heavy defeat upon us and a lesser team might have just rolled over and taken another one.

“Instead, the Sabres picked themselves up, regrouped and took the fight right back to the Blitz.

“If one or two plays had gone even a little bit differently, the game would have been ours.

“The sense of pride I have in seeing an improvement like this is hard to put into words.

“In a season where our development as a team is of primary importance, this game was a pivotal moment.”

Head coach Lee Joseph would have been encouraged by his side’s latest performance against London Blitz B.

The Sabres defence forced a number of fumbles and sacked the Blitz quarterback on numerous occasions, while James Dawson was able to connect with his receivers repeatedly.

Sabres have only been able to pick up one win during what is their first season as a member of the British American Football Association League.

And the Sabres are faced with a tough task on Sunday, when they welcome the unbeaten Wembley Stallions to Deanes Sports Centre for the final game of the regular campaign.
