JAMES Blanchfield hopes that his loan move to Aldershot Town will allow him to make a name for himself.

Blanchfield, who was raised in Rayleigh, has joined the National League play-off chasers on an initial one-month youth loan deal from Ipswich Town.

And the 20-year-old is hoping he can make an impact with the Shots.

Blanchfield said: “I am very pleased to have gone out on loan to Aldershot Town.

“I have only signed for a month but that can be extended month-by-month or I can get called back by Ipswich depending on how it all goes.

“I’m hoping that I will be able to gain experience and play men’s football.

“Hopefully I can make a name for myself and show people what I can do.”

The midfielder made his debut for Gary Waddock’s Shots side in the 2-1 win at Woking, having been an unused substitute in the draw with Maidstone United just two days earlier.

And Blanchfield has made an impression in the Tractor Boys’ under-23 side prior to his temporary move to Hampshire.

Blanchfield, a former Thorpe Hall School pupil, began his career with Premier League giants Arsenal and moved to Portman Road following a trial with Manchester United.

The highly-rated midfielder signed his first professional contract with the Championship club in July 2016, which has since been extended until this summer.

Blanchfield has remained a regular in the Tractor Boys’ under-23 squad and he has high hopes for the future.

“I started my footballing career at Arsenal at the age of seven,” added Blanchfield.

“I played and trained there until I was 16.

“At 14 I went full-time at Arsenal and lived away from home and done my GCSE’s up there.

“Things didn’t work out there so I signed a scholarship with Ipswich at 16 and I’m now into the second year of my professional contract.

“In the long-term, I want to be playing as high as possible and have a long and successful career.”

Blanchfield is highly-rated at Portman Road and he will be hoping for another contract extension, which will take his stint at Ipswich beyond the end of the season, by impressing in the National League.
