ROCHFORD Hundred got their London Two North East title push back on track with a convincing 40-0 win against Basildon at Magnolia Road.

The victory came after Hundred had suffered a shock defeat against Enfield Ignatians in their previous outing.

And Rochford’s first team manager Graham Pratt was delighted by the response of his side.

“This was an excellent way to finish off the first half of the season and to restore some confidence,” said Pratt.

“We scored seven tries without reply and we played with a determination and commitment which was missing last weekend.”

Rochford opened the scoring with a penalty from Adam Ashton which was swiftly followed up by the excellent Scott Chivers who powered over for a try. A second try followed from strong winger Matthew White to put Rochford firmly in the driving seat at 13 -0.

Basildon replied with their own period of pressure but were unable to break down a well organised Rochford defence.

The home side’s set scrum was also back on track, along with their driving maul which gained good territory on a number of occasions.

Rochford were duly rewarded through further tries from impressive flanker Tom Corbet and another from White to make it 23-0 at the break and provide a try bonus point for his team.

In the second half, Hundred picked up the pace once again and scrum half Brett Smith went over from close range after good forward work.

This was followed by number eight Scott Horsburgh driving through to ground the ball and Ashton to add the two points.

Finally and, perhaps fittingly as well, Harry Brooker scored a try in his final game for the club before he takes a five month break to tour the Far East in the New Year.

Rochford will head in to 2015 fourth in the table, just three points behind league leaders Chelmsford, while Basildon remain third from bottom in the table.
