ROCHFORD Hundred returned to action with a comprehensive 58-0 win against struggling Braintree in London Two North East.

Rochford had played just once since the Christmas break ahead of Saturday’s game.

But they blew away the cobwebs in fine style, scoring 10 tries without reply.

The first of those came from towering captain Sam Tape after a driving maul before impressive winger Sam Edwards also touched down and Adam Ashton added the conversion.

Moments later, Scott Horsburgh drove over for another converted try to increase Rochford’s advantage and scrum half Brett Smith also got in on the act with an excellent individual effort.

Ashton again added the extras to make it 26-0 at half-time, but there was no let up from Rochford.

As a result, flanker Darren Spencer soon powered over for a converted try before Edwards also touched down for his second try of the afternoon.

By now, the conditions were atrocious and ball was being won and lost by both sides as the wet and cold weather took its toll.

However, Rochford still found the pace and skill to keep playing rugby and score even more tries.

Second-from-bottom Braintree, who have yet to win this season, tried hard to stem the flow but as their defence floundered, Rochford centre Matt Stewart took full advantage to help himself to a hat-trick of tries.

Young winger Jack Baker also touched down to complete the scoring for Hundred who remain fifth in the table.

Rochford Hundred: Mark, Chivers, Wiseman, Tape, Horsburgh, Corbet, Whight, Spencer, Smith, Edwards, Ashton, Stemp, Stewart, White, Jon Baker.

Replacements: Bass, Murphy & Jack Baker.
