HARRY Hudson hopes history can repeat itself when Southend Saxons visit Worthing in National Two South this weekend.

The Saxons’ top try scorer was on the score-sheet when they saw off Worthing 23-14 at Warners Bridge in October.

And Hudson, who has scored nine tries this term, now wants more of the same when the two teams go head to head again on Saturday.

“It would be nice to have the same result as last time and hopefully I can get on the score sheet too,” said the number eight.

“Being one try away from double figures is something I didn't anticipate happening at the beginning of the year but I've been fortunate to score some tries on the back of the team’s hard work.”

Hudson was again among the scorers last weekend but his try was not enough to stop Southend suffering a disappointing 25-20 defeat at relegation rivals Lydney.

The defeat brought 13th placed Saxons back to within four points of the drop zone.

And Hudson remains frustrated by the setback.

“It's always disappointing to lose,” said the former King John School pupil.

“But it’s even more disappointing when we didn't play at a level we have reached in the last few weeks.

“We had a real slow start which cost us but we got ourselves back in to the game only to leave the game plan which handed them the win. “ However, Saxons will now be bidding to bounce back against fifth placed Worthing.

And Hudson is desperate to come out on top.

“The sooner we get back to winning ways the better,” he said.

“Worthing will be a test as they're one of the form teams and will be out for revenge after we beat them at home earlier on in the season.

“They will look to beat us up upfront with big runners then use the pace they have out wide so we know we will have to play well to win.”

Southend could have centre Sonny Gay available for the first time since November 2013 after he made a successful comeback for the club’s third team last weekend.

Gay had undergone two shoulder reconstructions during his spell on the sidelines but could return tomorrow.

Full-back Iain Meads is also available again after missing the Lydney defeat but back row David Jackson is doubtful with the mouth injury he suffered last weekend.
