GARY Street admits he will be entering the unknown when Basildon start their London Two North East season tomorrow.

Basildon host local rivals South Woodham Ferrers in their opening fixture of the new campaign.

But Street, who took over at Basildon during the summer having previously led England’s women team to World Cup glory, is not too sure what to expect.

“I know how well we’ve been playing but I have no idea how it compares to the rest of the league if I’m honest,” said Street.

“People have been asking how I think we might get on this season and I have to say I’m really not sure.

“I don’t think I’ll really be able to judge until about a month into the season when I’ve seen what the standard is like.

“But pre-season has gone really well. There’s real competition for places and we’re all really looking forward to getting started now.”

Rochford Hundred are also starting the London Two North East season with a new man in charge, former Southend prop Michael Guess.

He will be looking to get off to a successful start when Rochford host Sudbury tomorrow.

In Essex One, Billericay will be looking to bounce back from last season’s relegation and they kick off the campaign away at Kings Cross Steelers.

Canvey Island are also in action away from home as they travel to Pegasus Palmerians.
