THURROCK surged to their third successive London One North win, beating Chelmsford 36-20 on Saturday.

Two tries in the opening 10 minutes set the tone for the table-topping T’s.

And Thurrock’s director of rugby Dean White was delighted by the victory.

“As expected this was a tough encounter at Chelmsford, they put us under pressure throughout the game and asked questions of us,” said White.

“We stuck to our game plan and processes and came away with the five point win.

“This is a very good result and keeps us at the top of the table.

“We played well in phases but didn't put in an 80 minute performance.

“You could say we did a 'smash and grab' on Saturday and came away with the win and bonus point which was very pleasing.”

Thurrock started strongly at the weekend with Charlie Russo and Reece Durrance both scoring twice in the opening 10 minutes.

Chelmsford got back into the game with a penalty quickly followed by a converted try to cut Thurrock’s lead to 12-10.

But T’s soon began to assert themselves again with Alex Jones jinking through to score before Freddie Russo also touched down.

Jake Barrand added both conversions to make it 26-10 before Chelmsford replied with another try of their own.

After the break, Barrand kicked a penalty before Dan Carey touched down for another Thurrock try. Barrand again added the conversion before Chelmsford scored a consolation try late on.
