THURROCK’S promotion hopes were hit by a 34-14 defeat at table-topping Amersham & Chiltern.

The setback kept T’s fourth in the London One North standings.

And director of rugby Dean White had no complaints about the result.

“We played some good rugby at the weekend but didn't do it enough,” said White.

“We raced into an early lead and all the pressure was being applied by us but we then let them into the game.

“Amersham are a very good, well drilled side and you can see why they are top.

“They kept building as the game went on and our set piece was under a lot of pressure.”

Thurrock now sit 15 points behind Amersham in the table.

But White insisted there were several positives to come from his side’s performance.

“I was very pleased that we kept playing for the whole game and we did cause them a number of problems when we had possession,” said White.

“Our attacking game was on fire when we got territory but Amersham denied us possession and field position for long periods of the game.

“Losing three players to injury during the game didn't help matters but the team held firm and we have a lot of positives to take from the game.”

Thurrock will now be bidding to bounce back against Ruislip this weekend and White is sure his side will produce an improved performance.

“We look forward to this week’s game, a reaction is needed from this defeat and I have every confidence that we will get one,” he added.
