SEEVIC College’s Najee Mundicha has been called into the Saracens Academy.

The prop forward – who also plays for Thurrock – caught the eye during selection trials after initially being spotted playing for his club.

And the 17-year-old is thrilled to now be part of the Premiership champions’ youth set-up.

“I was surprised that they noticed me when I was playing but I felt honoured and excited,” said the youngster.

“I had been to Saracens’ training ground before but this was different, I was more nervous as I had a lot riding on it.

“They played at a much faster pace and I was thrown in the deep end but I enjoyed it and I feel like I could get used to it.”

Mundicha was part of the Seevic side which memorably reached the final of the NatWest Schools Cup final at Twickenham last season.

And the teenager feels being part of the sixth’s form set up has enabled him to develop his game.

“The training at Seevic is really challenging but it has helped me to reach my potential,” said Mundicha.

“Every week is different as far as training goes and you are learning a lot more skills than I would if I just played for one team.

“Seevic has helped me to open a lot of doors for my future and I am excited to see where I can get to.”

Mundicha has worked closely with the college’s director of rugby Danny Cleare.

And Cleare, who was voted EchoSport’s coach of the year for 2015, has been delighted by the prop’s progress.

“It is rewarding to see Najee get this far,” said Cleare.

“While at the college he has definitely changed as a person and grown up a lot.

“This has really helped his performance in rugby and he now helps to push others within the team.

“Najee can use his own knowledge to influence others and he really helps to drive the first years.”
