ROCHFORD Hundred secured their first success of the London Two North East season, beating Holt 32-22 at Magnolia Road.

Hundred had kicked off the campaign with four successive defeats.

But first team manager Graham Pratt hopes Saturday’s victory can now kick start Rochford’s campaign.

“This performance showed that there is a lot more to come and perhaps this was the game that turns round the season,” said Pratt.

“There were terrific performances from all and although I would love to mention everybody it was good to see Michael Mark getting really involved up front and even seeing him sell an outrageous dummy during one of his drives.

“Substitute Ryan Stephenson rolled back the years and made a big difference when he came on.

“But most importantly this was an impressive team performance.

“Each player can take credit for what could be an important result for the team.”

Despite the final score-line, Rochford found themselves 19-7 down at half-time.

But they fought back well with three converted tries in the second period to secure a much needed win.

Player coach Michael Guess touched down for Rochford in the first half and Matt Stewart added the conversion but Holt had by far the better of the first 40 minutes.

However, the game turned around after the break and lively hooker Nik Grier started Rochford’s comeback with an excellent try.

Stewart again added the extras before winger Sam Edwards also got in on the act, speeding through to score.

Stewart kicked the resulting conversion to level the scores before full-back Mark Billings put Rochford in front as he found enough space to score Hundred’s fourth try of the afternoon to secure a bonus point.

Stewart’s conversion made it 29-22 before Holt fought hard to get back into the game.

However, Rochford dug deep to keep them at bay and made sure of the win - which moved them up to 10th in the table - with another penalty from Stewart.
