WESTCLIFF’S Chris Dudman believes it is crucial they beat Colchester in National Three London & SE tomorrow.

Both teams head into the game at the Gables in the bottom three.

And Dudman is desperate to come out on top.

“I think this weekend’s game is crucial to our outcome this season,” said the full-back.

“It’s one we have had our eye on for quite a while now and it’s important we get the job done.

“We are expecting a close contest in all aspects of the game and we will not underestimate them as we know in the past they have been a strong outfit who have pulled off some surprising wins in this league.”

Westcliff head into the game 12th in the table with just one win from their first seven outings.

However, they are still three points higher than Colchester who have yet to win this season after suffering seven defeats in succession.

Westcliff will be hoping to add to their misery this weekend.

And Dudman admitted spirits were still high among Westcliff’s players.

“Our spirit is good heading into this game,” said Dudman.

“We have had some disappointing results in the previous weeks but this game is one that we always get excited for.”

Westcliff were beaten 38-18 at Guildford last weekend and will be looking to secure their first home success of the season tomorrow.

However, as they attempt to break their duck, director of rugby Rick Compton will be holding late fitness checks with a number of his players who have been suffering with injury and illness in the past few weeks.
