SOUTH Woodham Ferrers head to Ipswich in London Two North East tomorrow looking to continue their fine start to the season.

Inspirational coach Tony Woods has led Woodham to 21 points in five games so far this season.

And he is determined to add to that tally this weekend.

“We’ve had some small gold nuggets of champagne rugby so far this season but we want and need to keep it going,” said Woods.

“On Saturday we head to Ipswich looking to release our fire power from one to 18 and put in a strong point scoring performance.”

Woodham’s bright start, which has seen them win four times in five games, has taken them up to fourth in the table.

And skipper Lewis Gilbert has been delighted by his side’s run of form.

“Diss went well last week despite us losing 27-20 and I am really proud of the boys,” said Gilbert.

“Our intensity in defence was a league above and to gain two points there was good.

“When they come down to Woodham they will know they are in for a fight but we can’t think about that just yet, “Our season has started well and our pre-season which was run by James Mihill has really helped our fitness.

“Everyone’s heads are up and our fitness will count as the season progresses.”

But Gilbert is still hungry for more.

“The aim up until Christmas is to give us a chance of running to the top,” said Gilbert.

“Due to pitch issues we have a lot of home games after Christmas so I hope that comes to our advantage.

“This starts on Saturday with us picking up a strong win as we’ve got a near full strength squad.”

Ipswich are currently ninth.
