SOUTH Woodham Ferrers secured a fourth win in succession, beating promotion rivals Old Cooperians 46-17.

The victory kept Woodham second in the London Two North East standings and delighted their first team coach Tony Woods.

“Our performance was scrappy at times but we did what we needed to do to get a good result,” said Woods.

“At times we were on the end of some cheap shots but we kept our discipline all over the pitch which was pleasing.

“The red card their player received was truly deserved and there were so many yellow cards as well that it was very rarely 15 against 15.

“We were able to show our intent for the rest of the season by running in some good tries and it was great to see our back row getting involved in them.

“We’re keeping the pressure on Diss and hopefully come the new year we will be able to push on and overtake them.

“But all we’re thinking about at the moment is the game with Rochford this weekend.

“They had a great win as well at the weekend so we’re expecting a great game against them.”

Five yellow cards were shown in the first five minutes of Woodham’s game at the weekend but the visitors started well with tries from Ross Noakes and Lewis Gilbert putting them 12-0 in front.

Old Cooperians hit back before Jake Rawinsky replied with another try to put Woodham 17-10 in front at half-time.

The hosts were reduced to 14 men when their centre was shown a second yellow card for two violent acts and Woodham certainly made their numerically advantage count.

Noakes touched down in quick succession to complete a hat-trick before winger Joe Dukelow scored twice.

Liam Searles then bagged a stunning try to complete the scoring.
