SOUTH Woodham Ferrers made it six London Two North East wins in a row with an important 22-10 triumph at Cantabrigian.

Second placed Woodham went into the game just two points clear of their third placed opponents.

And they are now in pole position to challenge table-topping Diss for the title.

But, despite the victory, it was Cantabrigian who bagged the game’s first try and led 7-0 at half-time.

Woodham were also reduced to 14 men just before the break when second row Ryan Marshall was yellow carded but the home-side started the second period strongly with Oli Trigg scooping the ball off a greasy surface to score.

Woodham, who were now back to 15 men, seemed invigorated by the score and were able to stay on top.

As a result, some bullish running by Andy Williams, Sean Morris and Jake Rawinsky resulted in an overlap which allowed club stalwart Joe Dukelow to score in the corner and put Woodham 10-7 in front.

Moments later, a quick tap penalty was taken and veteran back row David Bull again showed his magic hands to tee up Dukelow for his second try of the game.

Adam Brown’s conversion made it 17-7 before the visitors hit back with a penalty to bring them to within one score of Woodham.

However, Cantabrigian’s desire to grab a try proved to be their downfall when Woodham fly-half Brown miraculously managed to steal the ball from the front row in their 22 and was able to slope off under the posts to secure his side a crucial bonus point.

And the win delighted Woodham’s experienced scrum half Ryan Gateson.

“Part of our success this season so far has been our togetherness and we’ve shown that again here,” said Gateson.

“The game showed what we’re about as a side this year.

“We were 7-0 down at half time and to go on and secure four tries is testament to the bar we set ourselves this year.

“We’re starting to talk about promotion, we know as a squad we have it in us and the depth in the club is shown by the two’s winning 73-0 on Saturday.”
