ROCHFORD Hundred secured a fourth win in five games, beating rock bottom Campion 41-6 at Magnolia Road.

Rochford scored seven tries to move up to eighth in the London Two North East standings.

And Hundred’s first team manager Graham Pratt was full of praise for the performance.

“It was a pleasing result for the team and supporters and showed, once again, when Rochford put their minds to it they can play some pretty good rugby,” said Pratt.

“But due credit must go to Campion for contributing to a good, fast and entertaining game and in spite of their struggling position they showed plenty of spirit and resolve.”

Rochford opened the scoring on Saturday when hooker Nik Grier stormed through and Matt Stewart added the conversion.

Moments later, Stewart ran through for a fine individual try before winger Matthew White showed plenty of skill and determination to beat the opposition and speed over for a great try which Stewart converted to make it 19-0 at half-time.

After the break, Campion responded with two penalty kicks and upped their game to put Rochford under pressure for the first time.

The visitors continued to enjoy more possession in the second half but gradually the fitness and skill level of the home outfit started to tell.

As a result, captain Stewart soon finished off a fine move to score his second try of the game and also added the conversion to increase the lead.

With Hundred remaining on top, flanker Tom Corbet then went over to score after good driving work from the forwards who were now dominating most aspects of play.

But, as often happens in matches, the final quarter produced more open play as defences tired and teams on top find more space to play in.

That was the case on Saturday as Rochford spread the ball wide and speedy full-back Mark Billings showed his class to run in two more unconverted tries to finish off proceedings in style.

Rochford will now be bidding for more of the same when they take on fifth placed Old Cooperians this weekend.
