SOUTH Woodham Ferrers slumped to an 11th successive defeat in London One North, losing 14-10 to fellow strugglers Letchworth Garden City.

Bottom of the table Woodham had been hoping to get back to winning ways against the team sitting immediately above them in the standings.

And captain Warren Duggan felt his side should have secured a victory.

“We snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in what was a must win game,” said Duggan.

“This season’s performances have been marked by a lack of real finishing power and it is a great shame that we can’t convert possession into points.

“Some quicker, more savvy thinking could easily have seen us get the victory we probably deserved at the weekend.”

Letchworth went in front with a penalty on Saturday but that seemed to spark Woodham into action as Tani Loka soon bagged a try that Jamie Cox was able to convert.

Woodham remained on top, with Duggan just falling short of the try-line during a spell of pressure which went unrewarded, before Letchworth hit back with another penalty.

Moments later, Cox kicked another penalty to put Woodham 10-6 in front at half-time.

But the hosts could not add to their tally in the second half despite seeing plenty of the ball.

After surviving a sustained spell of pressure, Letchworth replied with another penalty and then also scored a try against the run of play to ultimately secure victory and put themselves six points clear of Woodham.

Ferrers head to seventh placed Old Priorians on Saturday.
