SENIOR pupils from Thorpe Hall School will be representing East Anglia in the national finals of an athletics competition.

The girls finished in joint first place at the East Anglia stage of the Independent Schools Association event.

And the boys were second overall at the University of Cambridge athletics track.

“This is the best ever performance for Thorpe Hall at this event” said the school’s head of PE Richard Turner.

“It’s a pretty exceptional achievement, especially when you consider we are such a small school compared to many that attended.

“We are really proud of everyone that took part and looking forward to the Nationals later this month.”

The Southend school were up against more than 15 other ISA schools from across the region and will now represent East Anglia at the national finals at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium on Monday, June 17.

Pupils from the Wakering Road school returned from Cambridge with more medals than ever before for individual events and team relay competitions, with the girls and boys’ Year 7 teams and the Year 8-9 boys’ team winning their races.
