THE LTA's Great British Tennis Weekend kicks-off this weekend at clubs across Essex.

The event is a chance for people of all abilities to try out the sport free of charge.

Thorpe Bay LTC will be running a range of activities between 10am and 1pm on Saturday, May 16, and 10am to noon on Sunday, May 17.

Visitors will get the opportunity to play mini and junior tennis, plus free play for adults and families, with some of the club's senior players playing an exhibition match on Saturday at noon.

All equipment will be provided but those taking part will need sports clothing and shoes, just arrive at 10am on either day.

Other clubs participating in the event are: David Lloyd Basildon and Southend, Garons Tennis Academy (Southend), Palmers Sports & Fitness Tennis Club (Grays), Southend Lawn, Westcliff Hardcourts, Westcliff Lawn, Brentwood Hardcourts, Hutton & Shenfield, Kelvedon Hatch, Chelmsfordians, Braintree Lawn, Earls Colne and Frinton tennis clubs.

This weekend is the first of three Great British Tennis Weekends being organised at clubs. The other dates are June 13-14 and August 1-2.
