BLUES’ new left-back George Friend hopes Oldham Athletic will be sick of the sight of him come the weekend.

For the 21-year-old — who is on loan at Roots Hall from Wolverhampton Wanderers for at least the next month — has already beaten the Latics once this season during a spell with Millwall.

And he wants to be a part of another three point raid against them on Saturday.

“It would be great to beat them again,” said Friend who made his Shrimpers debut as a second half substitute at Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend.

“I didn’t know too much about them before playing them towards the start of the season but they seemed OK so I’m sure it will be a hard game.

“But it would be brilliant to get another three points against them.”

Friend enjoyed his first Blues appearance at the Withdean Stadium on Saturday as he replaced the injured Johnny Herd.

The defender looked comfortable on the left and should improve now he has become more accustomed to his new team.

“I only arrived the day before the Brighton game and wasn’t sure of all the players names during the game,” said Friend.

“It was a great first game to play in and I’m delighted to be here at Southend.

“I’ve only heard good things about the manager Steve Tilson and the players.

“And one of my best mates lives in Essex too so he told me all about the area which has helped.

“I’m looking forward to the games, starting with the one against Oldham.”

Friend will also be fit to face the Latics despite cutting his hand during the 3-2 win at Brighton.

The left-back had to change both his shirt and shorts on the sidelines due to the blood.

But he was fine to continue.

“I already had a small cut there and just got caught on it again,” said Friend.

“Because we were wearing yellow the blood showed up and meant that I had to get changed!”

And Friend could well be pulling on the Shrimpers shirt for longer than a month, if things go to plan at Roots Hall.

“It depends on what happens here and at Wolves during the month but if I do well here and Wolves don’t want me back then I would be happy to stay,” he added.
