I’M fully aware that we need to strengthen our squad, but I would like the supporters to know that it isn’t for the want of trying that we haven’t made any signings yet.

We’ve gone in for several players including the boy Chris Holroyd who has just gone to Bury, Akpo Sodje who chose to join Hibernian, Lewis Grabban who went to Brentford and another lad who chose to go to Brentford from Reading.

They’re not the only ones we’ve been after and it has been very hard to get people to join us on loan.

We’ve been in touch with Premier League clubs but the players who are available are 18 years old and it’s hard for these kids to come in and immediately be a main part of your team.

I’ve been trying to bring in experienced players like Craig Easton, Barry Corr and Chris Barker, but it’s been hard work.

Distance is a problem for some of our targets and others don’t want to drop down to League Two, but the window doesn’t shut until next week and we will continue to work hard to bring people in.

On the pitch, it’s been a difficult time.

Losing at Crewe was exasperating and very frustrating, especially after it come to the defeats we had at Morecambe and Lincoln.

We aren’t grabbing the nettle and we’ve lost despite having a lot of possession.

The pitches haven’t helped and some of the players have forgotten what got us in to a good position in the first place.

But I can’t leave them out because I have no one else to play.

I will have no negativity around the place though and for as long as it’s possible for us to reach the play-offs we will be giving everything we’ve got.

Even if a place in the top seven was then to become out of our reach then the players would still have their futures to play for because many of them are out of contract at the end of the season and will want new deals.

What is now vital is that we get back to winning ways tomorrow night against Hereford, but our injury situation isn’t helping.

Craig Easton is likely to be out for three weeks with the calf problem he suffered against Lincoln last weekend, while Peter Gilbert (groin) and Miguel Comminges (knee) will be out of action for a similar amount of time.

Bilel Mohsni is back running but is still another two weeks away from being fit and Mark Phillips is again out with a groin problem.

On top of that, Blair [Sturrock] and Barry Corr are playing with all kinds of knocks and it’s hitting us hard.

Hereford will also be full of confidence as they’ve won their last seven away games in the league but we want and need the three points and, with it being on a Friday night, I hope the fans come out in big numbers to cheer us on.

I certainly won’t be having anyone saying our season is already over, but we do need a win tomorrow night to get ourselves going again.
