SOUTHEND United’s chief executive Tara Brady insists Blues are targeting promotion next season.

And he is certain Paul Sturrock’s squad can be pushing towards the top of the table.

Southend finished 13th in the League Two standings last term.

But Brady is confident it will be a different story this time around.

“Last year we had a solid season considering our starting position but we’re stronger now and the target is definitely for us to go up next year,” said Brady.

“I think the league will be tougher this season because of the teams who have come up from the league below and those who have come down from above.

“But with the signing of Neil Harris and others I intend to bring in, we certainly hope to be up there challenging.”

Blues are believed to be keen on bringing in another striker and a wideman and also remain in talks with Crystal Palace midfielder Alassane N’Diaye over a season-long loan deal.

The Echo understands that deal is now close to being completed and the 21-year-old could be with Blues when they return to pre-season training this Friday, something Brady is looking forward to.

“It will be great to get going again and I’m sure all the players have stayed in shape during their break and are raring to go,” said Brady.

“The pre-season schedule has been carefully planned and hopefully it will make a difference this year.”
