SOUTHEND United host Barnsley in the fourth round of the FA Cup later this month - but it remains unclear which strikers shall be facing the Tykes.

Shrimpers chief Steve Tilson is keen to bolster his forward-line during the January transfer window and has tabled a £250,000 offer for Plymouth Argyle's Rory Fallon.

But the 25-year-old is still weighing up his options before deciding on a move from the West Country.

"Terms have been offered to Rory and he is thinking things over," said a source close to the Seasiders.

"He's speaking to his wife about things and if they would like to move here. It's in his hands really now and hopefully we shall hear back from Rory soon."

However Dean Morgan is unlikely to return to Roots Hall, despite his proposed switch to Leeds United falling through.

The attacker, who spent the last two months on loan from Luton Town with the Shrimpers, scoring three goals in nine games, failed to agree personal terms with the Elland Road outfit.

But manager Tilson does not expect to make another move for the 24-year-old.

"I haven't heard anything from Dean and I don't really know what's going on," said the Blues boss.

"The last time I spoke to him he seemed set to go to Leeds, so I don't know why he hasn't.

"If clubs like that are after Dean though it seems unlikely we would be able to afford him."

Morgan left Southend with a bang by bagging a brace in the 5-2 cup triumph over Dagenham and Redbridge on Saturday.

But Tilson is disappointed to have been paired with Championship club Barnsley in the next round.

"It isn't the draw we wanted," he said. "Ideally we would have been up against a Premier League side and made the club a bit of money.

"It's a tough draw too because they are doing well in the division above us but at least we're at home."

The Shrimpers also faced Barnsley in the FA Cup last season and after drawing 1-1 at Roots Hall in the first meeting they triumphed 2-0 at Oakwell in the third round replay.

And the clash will also see winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce return to Roots Hall.
