District Commander for Thurrock, Chief Inspector Richard Melton, said: “I understand that this discovery is a real concern for anyone who lives or works in Chadwell.

“Thankfully, the firearms are now in our possession and we have made them safe. Detectives from our Serious and Organised Crime Unit are working tirelessly to trace the people who are linked to these weapons.

“We know that large-scale cannabis grows are often linked to organised crime, and a grow can bring intimidation, violence and exploitation along with it.

"I’d like to thank all the members of the public who report suspicious behaviour to us every day as, without your information, these weapons could still be on the streets.”

A spokesman for Essex Police, said: "Our enquiries are ongoing to locate those linked to the address but, in the meantime, we would like to thank local residents and businesses for their support and information.

"Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 101 and quote incident number 114 of Thursday 9 July.

"If you want to report something to us but wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crimestoppers in complete confidence. Their number is 0800 555 111."
