READERS and councillors have reacted after a vehicle veered off a “treacherous” road leaving a teenager in a life-threatening condition.
Essex Police were called to Creeksea Ferry Road, in Canewdon, after a black Ford Fiesta left the road and crashed into a ditch at around 1.50am.
An 18 year-old woman was subsequently taken to hospital after reportedly sustaining chest injuries and is described as being in a life-threatening condition.
The road was quickly closed by Essex Police so officers could begin to carry out investigations into the horrific incident.
Laureen Shaw, Rochford councillor for the Roche North & Rural ward, sent her well-wishes to everyone impacted by the incident.
“I do not know all the facts about this at this stage, so I am not prepared to say very much,” she said.
“But what I will say is my thoughts go out to all families that are involved in this incident.”
After the serious incident two 17-year-old boys and a 17-year-old girl were also taken to hospital.

They have since been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and remain in custody.
Enquiries remain ongoing to locate a fifth person believed to be in the vehicle, a woman, who is believed to have left the scene following the collision.
Since the news of the crash broke, one resident has described Creeksea Ferry Road as being “treacherous” while Echo reader Carmine Rizzo questioned its safety.
He said: “Not long ago a young man lost his life down the same road due to reckless driving.
“The road is unsuitable for fast driving.”
