A PROBE has been launched after a woman was raped in a graveyard.
Essex Police were called last night at around midnight by a woman claiming she had been raped in the graveyard of St John's Church on Chancellor Road.
A cordon remains in place at the scene while police investigate the incident.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We were called just before midnight last night with an allegation of rape.
"It was reported that the incident took place on July 15 in Southend.
"The victim is being supported by specialist officers.
"We are currently on scene at Church Road, Southend.
"Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could assist our enquiries is asked to call 101 and quote 1575 of 15 July."
