A MAN was left with serious injuries after he was hit by a car, emergency services have confirmed.

The man, who was hit by the vehicle on Star Lane in Great Wakering last night, was rushed to hospital in a "serious condition."

An air ambulance was called to the scene.

The Echo understands the man, whose age is yet to be confirmed, was walking along the path that runs alongside the road around 9.45pm.

It's believed the driver involved stopped at the scene, and knocked on neighbours doors to ask for help and "for towels", before ringing the ambulance service.

The road was closed for several hours.
