A CAMPAIGN using the misspelt name “Help Are Own First” to trick xenophobic trolls into donating cash to support Afghan refugees has gone viral.

The fundraiser has gained traction online with its name enticing “far-right wingers” to donate towards the safety of fleeing Afghan families arriving in the country.

The GoFundMe page was set up by Simon Harris from Southend at the weekend and has since raised £25,602.

At first glance, the crowdfunding page appears to urge Brits to ‘Help Are Own’ with a Union Jack illustration. It also calls for Corbyn to “resign in shame.”

When reading further the page reads, “For the purposes of this appeal, ‘ARE OWN’ refers explicitly to Afghan families who are currently being resettled in the United Kingdom. This is because a lot of them risked their lives to help our armed forces and government officials with translation, interpreting and other tasks during the last 20 years, and to be honest even if they didn’t, the United Kingdom may have had the teeniest, tiniest, weeniest role to play in this whole sh*tshow.”

Mr Harris continues to explain how the money will be spent by stating, “this is going to Community Agents Essex who will be working closely with Afghan families arriving in the county. This will help ensure that they have everything that they need for a comfortable and dignified new start. Any further funds will be distributed to the same organisation and any others who need urgent support.”

Mr Harris revealed that the fundraiser has led to personal threats. He says, “People just don’t seem to understand that these families that are coming over have been helping our own British forces and are lumping all refugees as ‘bad people’ that are going to do this and that.

“I used the mis-spelling as I’m fed up with seeing it on Facebook and far right-wingers misreading the situation and using it as an opportunity to be racist.”

The crowd fundraiser has proven a success with it trending on Twitter Sunday night.

One Twitter user, said: “Help Are own first’ I’d suggest clicking and reading the link before slating anyone retweeting this go fund me. I’ll admit I thought the same when it first popped up, but humans, I’ve learnt to look before I leap.”
