A man has been charged in connection with a assault in Leigh Broadway on Sunday.
Police were called to the scene shortly after 6pm.
The victim, a man aged in his 40s, was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition, where he remains.
Daniel Ballard, 31, of Lincoln Close, Southend, has been charged with GBH with intent, ABH and common assault.
He is due to appear in Southend Magistrates’ Court today.
Detectives are continuing to appeal to witnesses who have not already spoken to police to come forward.
Detective Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe, who is leading the investigation, said: “Specifically, we would like to speak to anyone who was either driving a vehicle or in a vehicle in Leigh Broadway at the time.
“We believe the incident spilled from the pavement onto the road, which caused traffic to stop and we would like to speak to those people who were those vehicles.”
