Police have launched an attempted murder probe after a woman suffered serious injuries in Southend last night.
Officers were called to the concerns for the welfare of a woman in Bewley Court, Southend, shortly after 6.30pm.
They arrived and found a woman had sustained serious injuries having fallen from a height.
The woman, aged in her 20s, has been taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition.
A 26-year-old man from Southend has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody this morning.

Detective Inspector Stewart Eastbrook, of Southend CID, is leading the investigation.
He said: “The investigation is in its early phase. At this stage, we believe this to be a contained and isolated incident, with no risk or threat to the wider public.
“There will be a very visible policing presence in the area throughout today and indeed in the coming days as we investigate the circumstances which led to this woman sustaining very serious injuries.”
