Photos show the size of a field fire on Canvey yesterday which affected a 2km stretch of shrub land.

A relief crew remains at the scene today to continue monitoring for hot spots after the field fire near Canvey Road.

At the scene yesterday crews were supported by Essex Police, the East of England Ambulance HART team and the Salvation Army.

An Essex Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Thank you to everyone for their assistance whilst we dealt with this incident, especially the residents of Canvey who have sent so many thanks and good wishes to our crews."

Sixteen crews and two off road vehicles attended the incident in the afternoon and evening which which has affected a 2km stretch of shrub land.

Firefighters worked exceptionally hard in difficult conditions to protect nearby livestock, stables and a recycling centre.

Area Manager Danny Bruin said yesterday: “Please be assured that although there is still a lot of smoke coming from the shrub land, there is no direct risk to surrounding properties.”
