A Southend street is seeing a huge police presence more than 24 hours after two teenagers were left injured.

Various cordons, officers and police vehicles are in York Road this morning after Essex Police was called to reports of a disturbance in the early hours of yesterday morning.

There are a number of cordons, a tent and many officers in the city centre street this morning as detectives carry out investigations into the incident.

Residents have spoken of their shock at the scenes and police presence in the road.

One shop worker said: "I've never seen so many police and so much police tape all in one place. Lots of people have been saying there's been a stabbing.

"I think it is worrying and I think this area has got a bit of a bad reputation which is a shame for us living here. I really hope the two young men pull through and my heart goes out to them and their families."

A police investigation is underway into what detectives are calling an “aggravated burglary” which has seen two people arrested.

Two teenage boys are in hospital after being injured in the incident, including one who is fighting for his life.

Yesterday one horrified eyewitness has revealed how most of the residents of York Road poured out onto the streets in the middle of the night to help after two teenagers were left badly injured.

The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, claims she was among the first to rush to the aid of the boys after being woken up by a “big bang” around 4.25am.

A teenager is in critical condition in hospital and fighting for his after reports of a 'stabbing' and police also say a second male victim was also found with injuries to his legs.

Police were called shortly before 4.25am following reports of disturbance in York Road. A 29-year-old man and a 27-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of GBH and aggravated burglary. Both remain in custody for questioning.

Yesterday an Essex Police spokesman said: "Two men have been arrested after an incident which took place in Southend in the early hours of this morning. We were called shortly before 4.25am following reports of disturbance in York Road.

"Officers attended and found a teenage boy had sustained serious injuries. He was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains in a critical condition.

"A second victim, a man aged in his late teens, was also found with injuries to his legs. He has been taken to hospital for treatment and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
