Police patrolling in Basildon have found a suspected fuel thief inside the wheel of a lorry.
Essex Police officers conducting Vision Zero patrols on New Year's Eve in the town disturbed what they believed to be a stolen vehicle stealing fuel from a lorry.
Roads policing officers alongside specialist teams and the dog section investigated the scene and found the suspect in an unusual spot.
The force says the suspect was located hiding under the lorry in the fifth wheel.

Vision Zero is the force's commitment to reducing to number of deaths and serious injuries on Essex’s roads to zero by 2040.
Last year saw further investment to support safety initiatives and combat criminal activity on the county's road network.
An increase in officer numbers, new high-performance vehicles, and the addition of new dashcam technology thanks to £1.5m from the office of the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (PFCC) at the start of 2022 helped the roads policing team secure convictions for dangerous drivers and disrupt the criminals who use the roads in Essex.
