HEARTFELT tributes have been flooding in for a “kind, generous and loving” dad-of-two and former Pitsea footballer who “never stopped fighting until the end”.

More than £50,000 has now been raised to support the family of Martyn Guest, 35, who died on December 8 after a long battle with acute myeloid leukaemia.

He leaves behind his wife Charlie, and children - eight-year-old Jayden and three-year-old Sienna.

Martyn first began playing football at age seven and loved being part of a team, getting on with all his team-mates.

He played for various clubs between 2012 and 2021 in Essex, including Witham Town, Southminster United FC, Brentwood Town, Basildon, and Tilbury.

Most recently, Martyn played for Bowers and Pitsea FC from 2015-2017, and 2019-2021, up until his diagnosis in December 2021.

She said: “The strength, courage, and determination he showed this past year was incredible and inspired.

“He never gave up. He fought literally until that last day, as he wasn’t ready to leave his kids, and I have never known strength or bravery like it.

“Martyn was kind, generous, passionate, loyal, and loving. He had a tough exterior but was as soft as anything underneath.

“He touched so many lives, but none so much as me and our beautiful children. It has left a hole that can never be filled.

“All he ever wanted was to have a family, and he would have done absolutely anything for us.

“I am incredibly grateful for the 17 years we had together, they were the best of my life, and will be cherished always.

“I wish we had more time, the kids deserved more time, but they will know every single amazing detail about their daddy.

“He will be missed forever by so many.”

On Monday, Bowers and Pitsea FC played Billericay Town FC where they paid tribute to the former goalkeeper.

There was a minute’s silence, as well as applause in the 13th minute for Martyn.
