A Basildon driver has been charged with drink driving after police stopped her due to an ice-covered windscreen.

Officers stopped the driver’s vehicle at around 2.15am on January 23, when the police say they noticed the windscreen only had a small section de-iced.

They stopped Philomena Aylott on Laindon Road, Billericay and arrested her on the scene after a breath test.

She was later taken into custody and charged.

Essex road policing unit posted the incident on Twitter with pictures of the windscreen and said the side driver’s window was "just as bad."

They wrote: "Other officers then stopped this driver in Billericay with a side driver’s window just as bad, she then failed a breath test and was arrested on suspicion of drink driving."

Aylott is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on March 7 following the charge.
