A BIG-NAME high street business is set to form part of a luxury housing development opposite the Grand Hotel in Leigh, the developer has revealed as building work rapidly progresses.

SJT developments started work on Ace the Broadway, in Leigh Broadway, back in March after the former Grove Fittings Ironmongery store and Leigh Car Wash were demolished and moved to London Road.

Now, the firm has revealed that work is “progressing nicely” and will be complete by June next year, including 15 plush apartments and commercial units.

Speaking to the Echo, one of the directors at SJT Developments James Tappenden, revealed a number of new businesses are coming.

He said: “Two businesses, which I can’t reveal until the contracts have been signed, are set to move from their current locations to a bigger and newer space at Ace Broadway.

“In addition, we’re in talks with a big high-street name for the other two remaining units.”

The 15-unit scheme will comprise seven one-bed flats, seven two-beds and one three-bed.

According to a listing on Rightmove, a two-bed, 735sqft apartment for sale at the new development is going for £575,000.

Along with the flats there will be off-street parking for 17 vehicles belonging to residents, and four commercial units with two already reserved and the others still available.

Mr Tappenden added: “Work is progressing nicely, with a set completion date for the apartments in May/June 2024.

“We have reserved/sold roughly 35 per cent of the development already - with four units now reserved.”

Bosses previously shared how customers can expect “a beautiful and liveable set of flats” which will “enhance the appearance of the street-scenes and identity of the local area”.

Opposite is the Grand Hotel, which was previously transformed into a plush housing complex with 18 homes and will have a restaurant and a spa.

Richard Longstaff, Leigh ward Green councillor, said: “It’s great news that a completion date has been revealed, and people can now get excited about moving into their new homes.

“It’s also good to hear about new tenants expressing an interest in the commercial spaces, but I hope they will be independent business as that’s what the people of Leigh want rather than national brands.

“I look forward to seeing the finished development next year.”
