A POPULAR country pub beloved for its huge beer garden and Sunday lunches has been closed until Friday for "essential" work.

The Hawk, in Battlesbridge, has closed its doors to customers until Friday, June 14, while essential maintenance work is being carried out. 

A spokesman for the pub said in a statement on Facebook: "Just to let you all know, we’ve had to close the Hawk until Friday due to essential maintenance work.

"Sorry for any inconvenience caused, we will be back up and running as soon as possible!"

The pub is hugely popular in the area for its countryside charm, with 2,321 Google reviews and an overall 4.3-star rating.

It is based in the idyllic Battlesbridge, with customers often enjoying the scenic views of the village in its spacious beer garden throughout the summer.

 

Regulars have reacted to the news with sadness, but are preparing to support their favourite local when it re-opens with families set to celebrate Father's Day this weekend.

The pub has launched a special Father's Day menu with an offer of three sensational courses for £31.95.
