A GOOSE was swung around by its neck in a country park before being thrown in a nearby bush.

A group of youths, believed to be in their 20s, were seen swinging the bird by its neck in the Wick Country Park in Wickford yesterday afternoon.

The bird was then tossed into a nearby bush with a fractured wing.

A walker then found the bird and was taken to the south Essex Wildlife Hospital.

The goose died a few hours later, the hospital has confirmed.

A spokesman from the wildlife hospital, said: "A group of youths at the wick country park in Wickford, were witnessed swinging this goose round by its neck yesterday.

"It was recovered from a bush it had been thrown into by a compassionate passer- by and bought to our hospital but sadly died a few hours later.

"The goose already had a fractured wing.

"If you witness an act if animal cruelty, phone the police immediately whilst gathering as much evidence that you can."
